Diagnosis and Treatment open/close

It may sound obvious, but the correct diagnosis of heart or lung disease is every bit asimportant as its subsequent treatment. If the diagnosis is inaccurate, the 'treatment' won't work. We are a referral centre specialising in the diagnosis of all these difficult and complicated cardiac and respiratory problems The symptoms of coughing, breathing difficulties or fatigue on exercise, can all be attributed to either a heart or a lung disease. For this, nothing counts more than our clinician's in depth experience and knowledge. However, we also benefit from leading state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment that helps us to diagnose heart and lung problems accurately.

Minimally Invasive Surgery ('keyhole' techniques) Heart or lung disorders in pets are most commonly treated with drug therapy, but may sometimes require surgical intervention, such as pacemakers, or repair of some heart defects. We are one of the leading centres in Europe for cardiac catheterisation procedures for management of heart defects, and so you may be referred to us by another Cardiologist. We also have a visiting Specialist who is expert in thoracoscopic procedures (keyhole surgery). Surgical intervention of any sort carries a small element of risk. So, following diagnosis, we'll explain clearly what the various treatment options are, their costs, likely benefits and any risks that exist. In this way, we hope to make it as easy as possible for you to make an informed decision at what will inevitably be a worrying time.

About us Martin Referrals is one of the leading centres for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung conditions in dogs and cats. We are a small close-knit team and so can provide a personal service with efficient communication. Your pet will not be under the care of someone in 'training', but by a vet with post-graduate qualifications in Veterinary Cardiology and many years of experience that is paramount to the diagnosis or treatment of your pet.
