Did you know that exposing your pup to as many different experiences as possible in the first three months of his life, while he is naturally investigative, will help prevent him developing fears and behavioural problems? The risks of infectious disease can lead owners to be over-protective, but with early vaccination, these risks can be minimised.
Even before he's fully vaccinated, you can try to familiarise your young pup with safe environments like your house, garden and car, and with other adults and children. Short car trips can be fun and allow him a wide range of experiences - try to take him to places where he will hear other traffic and loud noises. At home, incorporate commands and handling into play so that he learns to let as many people as possible look at his ears, eyes, nose, mouth, paws and body - this should also make him comfortable with veterinary examinations.
As soon as he has developed immunity from his vaccinations it's important for him to get out and about to different environments, to meet as many other dogs and pups as possible, and to come across farm animals and other pets to build up his confidence.
So - if you've got a young pup, give us a call and ask about puppy behaviour, early vaccination and our puppy parties.
