As we enjoy some summer sunshine, you may want to brush up on your technique for shampooing your dog alfresco - that way, your house is less likely to be soaked in the process!
By way of preparation, you will need to use a product developed specifically for dogs and our practice staff are happy to advise.
It is advisable to gently place a piece of cotton wool at the entrance to the ear canal to stop water entering it before you thoroughly wet your dog with clean, lukewarm water.
Gently massage shampoo into the coat and skin generating a good lather - work the product in around the head, neck, underneath the body and the legs, taking care around the eyes. Shampoo can be applied to paws and earflaps using a sponge or piece of cotton wool (squeezed out).
Thoroughly rinse your dog with clean lukewarm water and allow him to shake - at this point, you might want to take cover!
Completely dry your dog with a towel, comb through if long-haired and remove any cotton wool from the ears. Finally, if the weather isn't particularly warm, take your dog indoors as he shouldn't be left in the cold when wet.
